Blog Journal 10
Collecting data using online surveys (especially Qualtrics) and using Excel was very new to me and I made sure I paid extra attention in class when we were being taught the skills. After learning the Excel skills and using them a few times in class, it became a lot easier and I am no longer "afraid" of Excel. I can see myself using surveys and Excel as a way to collect and analyze data and the future. Because I want to teach Kindergarten, I could use surveys to assess the accessibility of different things of my students. The survey would ask about the access they have to internet, computers, etc. The survey could also ask about students learning preferences, disabilities, allergies or any other things I should be aware as a educator. I then could use Excel to organize and analyze the data and save it to my computer for any future reference.
One part of Blogging I enjoyed was being able to read my peers blogs. By reading their posts, I got to see their opinions on what we were discussing in class and other ideas or programs we we talked about or asked to find ourselves. My favorite type of topics to read were when they mentioned how they would implement different technologies into their classrooms. Sometimes it is hard for me to think of ways to implement different programs, especially for a kindergarten classroom, so reading about how other would use it was really helpful. I didn't get a chance to read everyone's blog posts, but I am looking forward to going back and reading more.
One technology-related skill that I would still like to learn about next, is using the different computer storage devices. There are so many devices including disks, USB drives, CDs, zip disks and others that I want to learn more about. I have a basic understanding about USBs and SD cards but not too much about about CDs and the different disks. I want to know what type of storage device is better for different types of media because I feel like that would be helpful when wanting to transport different material from different computers and locations and as a educator, I think you will have to do that a lot. To learn about these, I will most likely look up articles and watch videos on YouTube. I usually find helpful videos on YouTube and will be able to develop my skills and knowledge though them.
